What Home Style are You?

Your home style and décor should be a reflection of you. Growing up, I remember changing up my style as often as my hair. One year I’d be punk, the next year I was preppy, one summer I was beachy, yet we lived in central PA.  I wasn’t really sure what style really felt like me. Home style and décor is similar in that regard. Your home is an extension of your personality. Sometimes it takes us a while to really figure out who we are, but once you do all the pieces come together.

When styling your home, regardless if you are contemporary or rustic, I think the most important thing is to be consistent. Maintaining consistency through your home creates a common theme and makes your home feel whole. Any style can be beautiful. What style are you?

If you picked mostly A’s you lean more towards a contemporary design. This style is defined as simple and subtle, with a sophisticated and deliberate use of textures and clean lines. Interiors tend to showcase space rather than things. When implementing this style, the focus is on color, space, and shape to achieve a sleek finish.

If you picked mostly B’s you prefer an industrial style. This style celebrates the use of efficiency and functionality by transforming the working parts of a building or home to become its primary aesthetic. Beams, columns, pipes and duct work are all emphasized in this style. Often this style is the style of choice in warehouse remodels or lofts.

If you picked mostly C’s you are most aligned with the farmhouse style. This style aims to look ‘collected over time’ and veers away from anything that is too matchy-matchy. Upcycling furniture and other pieces adds character and charm to this style. Farmhouse style encompasses cozy and comfortable and is made to be lived in. It is often said that ‘form follows function’ in this style. Great for families that don’t want to worry about keeping things perfect.

If you picked mostly D’s you have a more traditional style. Traditional interior design stems from a variety of old European design. This style often features detailed millwork, crown molding, and wood paneling. Furniture and fabrics tend to be more ornate. The traditional style is one that aims to be balanced, classic and timeless.

The four styles that I chose to use for the quiz were chosen because are they distinct and quite different from one another. Often times people are a combination of multiple styles. For example, contemporary is very similar to modern or minimalistic, but if you combine this style with farmhouse you’ll have a contemporary or modern farmhouse style that is very popular right now. I thought it would be most beneficial to focus on these four styles as a base and then build out from there. Hope this helped narrow down your personal style and get some tips for your home!
