iBlinds Review

We are super excited to be partnering with iBlinds to try their automated blind system! We received the box this week and had the opportunity to get it all set up and tested. We’ve never had automated blinds before, so this was our first go at it.

The set up for iBlinds was quite easy.  You can use your existing home blinds and connect with their system. The only catch is your blinds need to be between 2-2.5 inches, otherwise the iBlind motor won’t fit inside the window blind. iBlinds requires an initial eight-hour charge when you first receive it, but afterwards will run for up to six months. The iBlinds kit does provide a solar panel that you can attach to the backside of the blinds. This is pretty awesome because it literally makes your blinds maintenance free. If you choose not to use the solar panel, it does come with a long charging cord that you insert into the port every six months to charge up the blinds.

The instructions were straight forward. Once we got our blinds set up with iBlinds, we just had to connect the system to the SmartThings Hub. We had never used a hub before, so this was probably where we spent most of our time. The SmartThings Hub is a device that allows you to connect with a wide range of other smart home devices such as lights, thermostats, locks, etc. It is a one stop app for all things smart home. If you have one of these, you are probably already familiar with how it works and how to add a new device. It’s pretty cool and iBlinds is compatible with this system.

Once everything is connected, you can control the blinds in your home directly from your phone. If every day you want your blinds to open at 8AM and close at 8PM you can program it to do so. From a cost perspective it helps in the summer time to save on cooling costs. If you program your blinds to stay closed during certain times of the day when there is direct sun, and open back up later in the day in the shade- it can help keep your room cooler and lower your bill. From another perspective, the automated blinds help increase your privacy and keep nosey neighbors or unwanted guests from peeking in the windows. If you have a lot of blinds on the first floor, it can be a pain to go through and close them all in the evening. With iBlinds, you can program them all to close and not have to worry about it. Smart home devices in general can help keep your home safe when you are away. Having the opportunity to try iBlinds has made us want to invest in not only blinds, but other smart home devices. You can’t beat the ease of use and convenience.

Smart home devices such as iBlinds are the way of the future. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to improve home efficiency and convenience.
