15 Ideas to Increase Curb Appeal Over a Weekend
With nicer weather on its way, and more people home due to the quarantine- now is the perfect time to increase your home’s curb appeal. There are lots of things that you can do over a weekend to give your home some extra pizzaz. So for starters, I created a list of the top 15 things you can do now to increase your home’s curb appeal.
1. Trim shrubs
Take care of the shrubs and give them a good haircut in the spring! You’ll then be able to enjoy them all summer long. Well manicured shrubs will go a long way!
2. Planters, hanging baskets or window boxes
I love hanging baskets on our front porch. They add a pop of color and make our home look loved. We also add planters to the backyard and a hanging planter off the side porch. It’s something easy to do and makes your home look more inviting. Plus it adds a pop of color.
3. Pressure washing
Pressure washing your home and sidewalks is like night and day. There is nothing like a good before and after to see how much of a difference this can make. If you haven’t pressure washed in a couple of years I would definitely take some time to do it now.
4. Upgrade your porch light
This is a quick and inexpensive way to update your porch or patio. Adding new light fixtures will update your space and make it more inviting.
5. Paint front door
If your front door is dull or boring consider painting it! A gallon of paint can cost anywhere from $25-$50 and is a quick way to change the appearance of your home. Depending upon what color your home is will help determine what color to go with for the door. Take some time and google complimentary colors based on your home color. This will help you get started on the right track.
6. Outdoor décor
Decorating outside can be just as important as decorating inside! Easy outdoor décor ideas include seasonal wreaths, doormats, outdoor chandeliers, string lights, or potted plants.
7. Patio furniture
If you have a larger porch or patio that can handle furniture, I would suggest it! It’s so nice to be able to enjoy a space with friends and family. Not only that, patio furniture is very welcoming. This makes a home look warm and more appealing.
8. Clean gutters
Unless you have gutter guards, this is something that should be done every year- if not more depending upon your tree situation. Clogged gutters not only look bad, they also have an adverse effect on the ground and drainage below.
9. Replace hardware
Check out your front door and see what kind of shape the hardware is in. This would be a quick fix that can update the door instantly.
10. Add shutters
You ever see homes that just look like they are missing something? And then you realize they don’t have shutters? Shutters can make a big difference on a home. They just kind of complete the look. So if your home doesn’t have shutters, and it looks sorta plain, this may be something to consider adding. It will also bring color to your exterior.
11. Landscaping lights
Landscaping lights are nice in general because no one likes coming home to a dark home. We are so happy we have landscaping lights because even if we forget to leave a porch light on in the evening, we still have enough light to be comfortable and unlock the front door. It also helps deter mischief when your home is well lit.
12. Fresh mulch
I love fresh mulch. Pulling weeds and laying fresh mulch down does wonders. It gives a home a mini face lift when you put down fresh mulch. Do it in the spring and you’ll reap the benefits all summer long.
13. Update mailbox
Again, this is a small change that can have a bigger impact on first impressions. When you pull up to a nice home but they have a crappy mailbox, you wonder why they don’t fix their mailbox? And it doesn’t have to be anything crazy, just something nice.
14. Update house numbers
House numbers tend to be overlooked. So take a look at the numbers on your home and see if they are in need of some love. It may be something as easy as repainting them.
15. Maintain yard
This seems like a no brainer, but there are quite a few homes out there that don’t maintain their yard. Whether it be edging the walks or mowing regularly- these are things you can do throughout the summer to easily boast the appearance of your home.
